South Africa’s kitsch casino
The kitsch Sun City casino complex rises incongruously from the South African bushveld, a muted landscape of scrub-covered hills and dusty pink roadsides, 187km northwest of Johannesburg. It is a spit-and-sawdust area, with chunky bakkies (pick-up trucks) speeding past along the freeway toward the Kalahari Desert or the Botswana border. From the small city of Rustenburg, Route 565 leads 45km north from the freeway through platinum-mining country to the casino gates, where stilt walkers entertain queuing cars and signs forbid firearms.

Kerala... God's Own Country
The small state of Kerala, which represents just 1% of the land mass, is considered to be one of India's most beautiful state. It is a very rural state with most of the population living in villages but is culturally and scenically diverse. Kerala has two national parks, ten wildlife sanctuaries and two bird sanctuaries.
Kerala occupies a long (550km), narrow strip of land in the far south of India. Its coastline is on the Arabian Sea (part of the Indian Ocean) and its eastern border with the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu is the top of the majestic Western Ghat mountains. The landscape varies from long golden beaches to cool hill stations and dense green jungle to bustling cities. Its unique feature is the 1,900km of palm fringed backwaters.

Cape Town’s ‘lentil curtain’
By James Bainbridge
Driving down South Africa’s Cape Peninsula – a 75km stretch from Table Mountain to the Cape of Good Hope -- is the equivalent of crossing San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County, California: suddenly, the city feels far away and your pace slows to match the beatific landscape, with its rolling mountains, empty beaches, glistening bays and tiny seaside villages.
